While the "menace" of distracted driving is finally getting the attention it deserves by the media, parents, advocacy groups, and even some in the federal government, many states have not acted to restrict "texting while driving," despite studies showing that it is as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol.

OhMyGov! compiled the following list of where the 50 states stand on texting while driving legislation.

        4. a driver of a commercial motor vehicle reading a message displayed on a permanently installed communication device designed for a commercial motor vehicle with a screen that does not exceed 10 inches tall by 10 inches wide in size; 
        5. a driver using an electronic communication device while parked on the shoulder of a roadway; or
        6. a driver using an electronic communication device when the vehicle is stopped due to normal traffic being obstructed and the driver has the motor vehicle transmission in neutral or park.

 (3) Enforcement of this section by law enforcement officers may be
 accomplished only as a secondary action when a driver of a motor
 vehicle has been detained for a suspected violation of this title or an
 equivalent local ordinance or some other offense.
 (4) Infractions under this act shall not become part of the
 driver's record under RCW 46.52.101 and 46.52.120. Additionally, a
 finding that a person has committed a traffic infraction under this
 section shall not be made available to insurance companies or
 employers.

Texting while driving is worse than drunken driving. http://www.drivesafe.ly/ mobile application helps me to listen to the text messages while I concentrate on the road.

Idaho's Senator John McGee just introduced a bill to the Legislatir that would charge a fee of three hundred dollars and up to 90 days in jail for texting while driving

SB 1334, the No Texting While Driving Act will be heard in the full Senate today at 1 p.m.    Public support for this bill is extremely high, with nearly nine out of ten Arizona residents wanting this practice banned, citing it as a serious threat to their safety, according to AAA.
