12 Ways Students Cause Trouble With Social Media

Although we often tout the benefits of using social media in government, politics, business and in the classroom, it is important to keep abreast of the many ways in which social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace - yes, it still exists - can be used maliciously. The following presentation, excerpted from a larger training we recently completed for educators and school administrators, highlights some of the most egregious uses of social media by students over the past year and a half.

Highlights of the presentation include instances of students attacking teachers on Facebook, organizing cyberbullying plots via social media, and students falsely accusing a teacher of being a pedophile online.
