With the rise of social media, and Twitter in particular, playing a key role in the way stakeholders in all industries communicate with one another today there are several questions about how this technology will continue to effect the way the world does business. An upcoming conference will attempt to address some of these issues in a unique and fast paced fashion.

The 140 Characters Conference, being held next week in New York City, will "provide a platform for the worldwide twitter community to: listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time internet on business."

The conference, one of several being held over the next few months, will take place at the 92nd Street Y on June 15th and 16th and feature speakers such as Mashable Editor-in-Chief Adam Ostrow and Newark, New Jersey Mayor/Twitter superstar Cory Booker discussing how Twitter has changed the way things are done in both the private and public sector. What makes the #140 Conference, as it is known; unique is the way in which speakers will be making their presentations. According to the conference's website, attendees can expect "individual talks set to: 10 minutes; ‘Featured talks' 15 minutes and the various panel discussions are set for 15 and 20 minutes."

Speaking to OhMyGov, the event's creator Jeff Pulver said "My hope is for the people on our stage to connect with our audience and that at the end of two days, the effects the worldwide systemic change the emerging real-time internet is having on our lives will become more obvious."

Registration for the event is still open and can be found here, as well as information regarding upcoming #140 conferences being held on issues as diverse as fashion and education. Those unable to attend can follow along on Twitter via the hashtag "#140conf" after all, what kind of Twitter centric event would this be if you couldn't follow along without ever leaving the house?
